Importance of Annual Testing

Regular maintenance and testing of backflow prevention devices are essential to ensure they are functioning properly. The backflow annual test is a comprehensive inspection that checks the device's efficiency and compliance with local regulations. It is crucial to have this test performed by a certified professional to ensure the safety and quality of your drinking water.

What Does the Backflow Annual Test Consist Of?

Are you wondering what the backflow annual test entails? Let's dive into the details of this important maintenance procedure to ensure the safety of your water supply.

Overview of Backflow Prevention

Backflow prevention is a crucial aspect of maintaining the integrity of a water distribution system. It is designed to prevent the contamination of clean water by ensuring that water flows in one direction only. Backflow can occur when there is a sudden drop in water pressure, causing water to flow in the opposite direction and potentially bring harmful substances back into the drinking water supply.

What to Expect During the Test

During the backflow annual test, the certified technician will follow a systematic process to examine the device thoroughly. Here is an overview of what the test consists of:

  • External Inspection: The technician will start by visually inspecting the device to check for any visible signs of damage or wear. This includes checking for leaks, corrosion, or any other issues that may affect the device's performance.
  • Pressure Tests: The technician will use specialty gauges to measure the pressure within the backflow prevention device. This helps to determine if the device is maintaining the proper pressure levels to prevent backflow.
  • Valve Operation: The technician will test the operation of the valves within the backflow prevention device to ensure they are opening and closing properly. This is essential for maintaining the one-way flow of water.
  • Isolation Tests: The technician will perform isolation tests to check the different parts of the backflow prevention device individually. This helps to identify any potential issues within specific components of the device.
  • Conductivity Tests: In some cases, the technician may perform conductivity tests to verify that the water flowing through the device is clean and free from contaminants. This test ensures the device is effectively preventing backflow.

  • What does the annual test consist of?

When we perform an annual test, we first inspect the device externally to make sure everything is in order. Then we use our specialty gauges to perform a variety of tests to isolate different parts of the device, and make sure they are functioning internally up to code.

  • What is the Auto-Test Program?

At Certified Backflow Services we strive to provide the most seamless and efficient service possible. As a result of feedback from many of our clients, we implemented the Auto-Test program. You can sign up to reminders of future backflow testing so you'll never have to worry about missing the schedule date and incurring a penalty.  If you would like to enroll in the program, please let your backflow technician know, you will be singed up on spot.

  • What happens once the results are in?

Once the test is complete we provide a copy of the test report to both you and your water supplier within ten business days, as required by law.
